This woodpecker was eating the ants nesting in this old tree stump. There is an ant in its mouth.

@Lorraine: Me, too, Lorraine. I've always heard them in the woods, but had only seen one once for a second! I couldn't believe this one landed on this stump on the front lawn and stayed there long enough for me to get photos. And, it came back later the same day! Since then, I've never seen it again. Thank you for your comments.

Great shot. I have see this type of woodpecker only twice in my life time.

@Bob: Thank you, Bob. I've only seen one twice in my lifetime, also. This one stayed until it ate all the ants, then I never saw it again!
