Wysterior from Kloten, SwitzerlandWOW in a backyard?? How dangerous are they? 1 Jun 2008 5:42am @Wysterior: Black bears usually avoid humans, so if you just let them be and give them lots of room... and do NOT feed them as these people are doing, they just go on their merry way! I keep in mind that they are wild animals and unpredictable. But they are beautiful animals and it's very exciting to see them like this. Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaWell I hope your neighbours are happy about their rearranged bird feeders. Actually I am sitting here giggling about it, I must be tired. Betty, it is a great shot. 1 Jun 2008 6:51am @Marion: Oh, Marion... I giggled about the feeders, too! Those two feeders were new and didn't last a week! Thank you. @crafts: Thank you. Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesI don't think I would like to live where you live. How do kids go out to play? Great capture Betty! 1 Jun 2008 9:00am @Craig: Well, Craig... kids play outside very carefully. My granddaughter (12 years old) lives with me, and we had to tell her if she sees one to come in the house immediately! She and a friend were riding bikes past this house earlier this spring, and there was a bear there! Daroru from Amagasaki, JapanGreat photos... but I can't help thinking your neighbours are asking for trouble... 1 Jun 2008 10:01am @Helma: Thank you, Helma. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesWell, you can clearly see from your excellent photo-documentary that they are getting what they came for ... feed from the bird feeders! You really do live in "the country side of New Jersey." Have a nice Sunday, Betty! 1 Jun 2008 11:19am @Ron: You have a nice Sunday, too, Ron! Thank you for your comment! Chris from South Jersey, United StatesYikes! Very funny shot with the bears digging into those feeders - I guess this is the kind of bird feeder that isn't "critter proof"..... 1 Jun 2008 11:45am @Chris: Nothing is "critter proof" when it comes to bears! :-) I saw one crunching a tube feeder like it was nothing! That was back when I fed the birds, lost too many feeders and drew too many bears! Peter Miller from Lichfield, United KingdomWe have bird tables over here, you have bear tables 1 Jun 2008 12:05pm @Peter Miller: That's a good word for it! Thanks, Peter. vu@granby - Wolfgang from Granby, Québec, CanadaYou should change your moniker from countryside to wildernesside! Great catch! 1 Jun 2008 12:15pm @vu@granby - Wolfgang: Thanks, Wolfgang! Actually northern Warren County is even more rural! Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYou're a great, gutsy photographer, and a dear person :) 1 Jun 2008 1:16pm @Lorraine: Thank you, Lorraine, I really appreciate that! @Alun Lambert: Thank you, Alun. Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaIt is probably a mother and her year old baby. Do not get between them. 1 Jun 2008 4:02pm @Michael Rawluk: That's what I thought at first, too. But our next door neighbors went down to see them and said that it was a male and female because when the lady that lives there came home they went up into the woods and started to make baby bears! MJ from Delaware, United Statesgreat shot betty... they are pretty big and very hungry..... 1 Jun 2008 5:14pm @MJ: You know, MJ... if you think about it, how does bird seed fill up an animal that size? Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesI hope these people enjoy supporting the bird feeder manufacturers! 1 Jun 2008 6:35pm @Judy: We sold our stock in bird feeder companies and stopped feeding the bears! I don't want them here at my house... they can keep visiting my neighbors! @njsux: With these people feeding them... they'll stay up here! Jessica from United StatesI still think it's funny that he brought her to dinner first!! Wonder how many more cubs we'll have!! 1 Jun 2008 7:40pm @Jessica: Triplets! Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomIts kind of funny to see them, but at the same time I guess having these guests is serious business.....and I though the squirrels round here were cheeky....but bears is 'taking the buscuit'.....so to speak. 1 Jun 2008 9:24pm @Richard_Irwin: Yes, Richard, it is serious... you have to be aware at all times, when you leave for work in the morning, when you come home, evenings - just about any time. And make sure that you have nothing outside they would consider food! @Rags: The people that provided the bird seed! :-) @Earnest: Not me... he can go and do anything he wants! Judy Andrus Toporcer from Colton, United StatesGee, the stores near me market those wooden, seed-filled things as "bird feeders" - you provide some "truth in advertising"!! Bears are great animals, not to be feared when humans act reasonably and respectfully. Fun photo! 2 Jun 2008 10:32am @Judy Andrus Toporcer: Thank you, Judy... you said it so well "when humans act reasonably and respectfully". That is exactly right when living in bear country! Again, thank you. Harald from Frankfurt am Main, GermanyIt looks that they like the birdseed. A fantastic capture. 2 Jun 2008 4:04pm @Harald: They love it, the only seed they don't go after is thistle! Thank you, Harald. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesCome on Betty, they're cute and cuddly. Why do you think they call stuffed animals "Teddy Bears"? They'd probably eat right out of your hand. Cause', after all: Look for the bare necessities Just kidding of course. I've seen "Grizzly Man," and those these are Black Bears, they're still animals that need to be treated with respect. But they are wonderful animals. 3 Jun 2008 3:24pm @Twelvebit: At first look, they are cute and cuddly... then you see there paws and teeth!!! We give them a lot of respect! :-) Cheryl from Texas, United StatesOh my! look who's coming to dinner! nice capture! 4 Jun 2008 2:01am @Cheryl: You know, I looked yesterday and the metal rods are straigtened out... but the bird feeders are gone. No more dinner for the bears! Margie from Auckland, New ZealandWow! Great shot - and I am VERY happy to say I will never see this in my neighbours backyard! 4 Jun 2008 10:50am @Margie: Thank you, Margie! Margie from Auckland, New ZealandWow! Great shot - and I am VERY happy to say I will never see this in my neighbours backyard! 4 Jun 2008 10:51am Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesSmile!
