@Lorraine: Thanks, Lorraine. I will probably never know, this was taken at Merrill Creek Reservoir while taking a walk. I never made it back to see! I just thought these buds were really interesting.

Very nice use of dof! Lovely colors.
I think this is Common Milkweed. The little buds should open soon. In the fall, the seedpods break open to reveal downly fluff attached to each seed.
